Youth Leadership Engagement Program

OLDF Youth Leadership Engagement Program (YLEP) is an interactive fun program for youth between 12 and 17. The program will prepare students for youth engagement and community involvement opportunities, gain leadership and teamwork skills and develop friendships through collaborative and peer-to-peer learning. Tutoring (Grades 8-12)

Our High School Tutoring program provides comprehensive social and educational activities throughout the school year for students in grades 8-12. Due to COVID-19, we are providing virtual high school tutoring for free for academic support. An after-school High School Tutoring program would provide the necessary, safe space, tutoring, and support to inspire students to excel, including but not limited to completing assignments and reading/literacy activities. Due to COVID-19, we are currently running this homework club and high school tutoring virtually online. At the end of the school year, the management team of OLDF, along with the tutors, will evaluate to assess the milestones, accomplishments, and areas of improvement for the High School Tutoring program to rerun it successfully for the following school year (2025-2026) and beyond. HOW TO PARTICIPATE Our program is free and provides a space for high school students who need additional tutoring/mentoring support. Priority will be given to: Students who are falling behind in school and are at risk to repeat a grade Students who are referred by a teacher or school professional Students whose first language is other than English Students who face a lack of family/social support and are experiencing challenges at home Students who are unable to hire a tutor/mentor due to financial hardship Parents: Parents can fill out the application form below to sign up for their child. There are limited spaces per day, and the program fills up quickly, so please register promptly and ensure your child can attend regularly. Registration opens each fall and goes through until the end of the school year. School professionals: School teachers, counsellors, settlement workers, and other school professionals may refer students who require tutoring/mentoring support to this program. Home Alone Safety

The Home Alone Safety Course is designed to provide children ten years of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when Home alone for short periods. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. The program focuses on small group discussions, problem-solving, role-playing, and instructor-led demonstrations. Is there a minimum number of student to run a class Yes, if we do not meet the minimum requirement, you will get a full refund, and we will inform you no less than 48 hrs before the commencement of the class. What is the minimum age for Home alone safety course? There are no legal ages for staying Home Alone in Ontario. While there is no defined age, in Ontario, Children’s Aid Societies recommend that children under ten not be left home alone. Age is just a guideline; not all ten-year-olds are sufficiently responsible and mature to stay on their own, even in a safe and well-stocked environment. The judgment call is left for parents as they know their child’s abilities best. Children need to be trained with beneficial safety information to help them make wise decisions, prevent injuries and deal with an emergency or an unexpected situation if required. Will, my child, receive a certificate after Yes, each child gets a certificate and a manual. The replacement cost is $10. Please take a photo of your child’s certificate in case they misplace it.
