Preventing Violence against Women and Children

Violence against women and children is a violation of human rights, the very nature of which deprives victims of their ability to enjoy fundamental freedoms.  Our programs and services are informed by a depth of understanding of violence in society.

The Women and Children’s Support program works with victims of domestic violence to improve the quality of their life.  The program respects self-determination & fosters independence. Services and support enables women to make more informed decisions and access the services they need.

Multi-service locations give participants anonymity as well as access to a variety of programs such as ESL, employment counselling, adult literacy, settlement services, children’s programs, Music School etc.

Services include:

  • Individual      supportive counseling for women and children
  • Crisis      intervention
  • Safety      planning
  • Support      groups
  • Goal      setting and transitional plans

OLDF Seniors Center provides programs for adults 55 years of age and over, and persons with disabilities. All programs offered by OLDF promote independence and participation. In addition to participating in the more structured programs, participants have the opportunity to become involved in health and wellness programs, leadership development, coalitions and community development initiatives.

We run our programs in partnership with many senior residences. Many of the senior programs enjoy a high level of volunteer participation of both program members and community residents. Multilingual staff, as well as trained and supervised volunteers, provide services in a culturally sensitive manner.
